A real personal ghost story: The ghost cat

by Lara Whybrow

One night, while I was in bed in a half awake/half asleep state, I got a visit from a ghost cat. It might have been a ghost cat, or it could have been the cat astral projecting. It is believed that cats astral project just like we do. Either way, what I felt was very real and very "physical".

I was lying in my bed, in that half awake/half asleep state I mentioned earlier, when I heard loud purring. As someone who has had cats before, it was a sound I knew very well. It was coming from the bottom of my bed. Then I felt the cat walking on the bed, I felt its paws on my legs, and it walked all the way from the bottom of the bed to my shoulder. I was lying on my side and although I was fully conscious I was still very sleepy and relaxed so I didn't move except to put my hand to my shoulder. I felt a nose and stroked it.

At that point I decided to see if it was in fact a real cat. I didn't see how it could have been, seen as I had closed my windows and my bedroom door. I turned on my bedside lamp and there was nothing in the room. My bedroom was very simple so there wasn't really anywhere for a cat to hide.

Now, the interesting thing about all of this was that this was the same room that I saw the black shape in  (click here to see the blog post about that). Was this room and house built on a ley line or area of increased earthly energy? Also, the room was painted in a light lavender colour - could the purple colour have facilitated psychic abilities? Purple has always been associated with the third eye. I think that it is a possibility, but not the only reason because I had the same experience while I was visiting someone in another city about 600km's away, and a year apart. I think the effect of the colour of someone's bedroom definitely needs more investigation though.

What a strange world we live in...

Blog review: Dolores Cannon - past life regression hypnotist with interesting information

by Lara Whybrow

Dolores Cannon is a hypnotherapist with interesting information about people that she has regressed through hypnosis to another life.

She mentions interesting information about nature spirits and plant and animal soul evolution into human forms. If you checked out the esoteric documentary that I posted earlier, you will remember how so many people in Iceland have seen "the hidden people". Nature spirits are an integral part of Nature but so few people don't believe them. I myself have not seen any nature spirits, so I cannot say with absolute authority that these beings exist. But I believe that they do exist because why would so many people see these things? Are they all crazy? No. I don't think we can dismiss paranormal phenomena so easily.

I also like her post about emotion. Without emotion people would be like robots and I agree with Dolores Cannon when she says, "the emotions that have the most to teach us are anger, hate, fear, jealousy, disgust, impatience, shame, pride, pity, indignation, envy, worry and guilt. Many refer to these as negative, but I think that makes them less constructive, so I will call them the Teaching Emotions. They teach us so much about ourselves if we will only look."

Are ghosts real? My story about a ghost

by Lara Whybrow

I think that in some cases ghosts are not always spirits with a conscious awareness of their surroundings but are "spirit memories", fragments of energy from someone, floating around. I also think that many ghosts and monsters are from a different timeline than the one we are are currently on, and something can cause a person to become aware of this different timeline - kind of like watching a TV channel. And I think some ghosts are souls that don't realise they are dead.

One particular experience really stand out in my mind when I think of ghosts.

My father had recently died and I was staying with my mother in our house. One night we were both on our way to the kitchen, which was at the other end of the house. To get there, we needed to go from one bedroom through another bedroom and then left and then right down a long passage to get to the kitchen.

We were in one of the dark bedrooms on our way to the kitchen and my mother was walking in front of me, I was about 30cm behind her, when suddenly she stopped. I couldn't see her clearly because the room I had just come from had been lit up and I had just turned off the light, so I was walking from a light room into a dark room and my eyes hadn't adjusted yet. So she stopped, and I waited for her to continue. All I saw was a dark shape, a little bit taller than me. I could clearly see the shape of a head and the shoulders. But, more importantly, I distinctly felt a presence in front of me.

Then I heard my mom calling me from the kitchen. The dark shape vanished and I realised it wasn't my mother.

The 100th Monkey Effect & the transference of thought and information without speaking (sceptics welcome)

by Lara Whybrow

Many of you have probably heard of this phenomena before but it's so important to our evolution that I am going to mention it here. I also want to mention why I am not convinced by the sceptics who have debunked this effect.

The 100th Monkey effect was first mentioned by Lyall Watson in his book Lifetide. In this book, he speaks for about 4 paragraphs on the subject of the transfer of information via a form of telepathy. He noted that in a certain colony of monkeys, the habit of washing potatoes spread to other colonies of the same type of monkeys - as if by thought transference. He suggested that, as Carl Jung also believed, organisms share information in ways not easily identifiable.

The sceptics had a field day with this one! They used the classic "there is not enough evidence to support this hypothesis" and sought to discredit the 100th monkey effect. The person who seems to have done the most convincing discrediting has been Ron Amundson. Read his article here. He makes some good points but I was not convinced. I know many people keep the truth to themselves because mockery in the scientific circles could result in the end of a career.

The main reasons why I was not convinced and believe in the 100th monkey effect are as follows:

- Rupert Sheldrake has done a lot of research into this effect. He has done experiments with people, showing the answers to a puzzle to millions of people and then getting people to complete the puzzle (they obviously had to have had no idea that the answers had been broadcast already). Before he showed the answers, a certain percentage of people completed it. After he showed the answers, more people could complete it. This strongly suggested that the 100th monkey effect was a very real thing. He has done a lot of other research into morphic fields.

- Lyall Watson is amazing. His books are some of the best I have ever read. He puts different streams of thought together in such a way that the bigger picture makes a lot of sense. I know that he won't say something unless he has good reason to say it.

- Plants share information all the time. For example, when certain plants are being attacked by insects they send signals to other plants nearby so that the plants can up their defenses against the invaders. Trees also communicate.

- How many times do you have that experience of your friend saying something - and you were just thinking the exact same thing?

- It is a popular saying that you become a little bit similar to the people you spend the most time with. People have a subtle effect on each other. If everyone in your group is always negative, you will be too. The psychology of crowds and mass hysteria are also observable effects.

- I have seen loads of weird stuff in my life, on that basis alone I can believe in the 100th monkey effect.

If you can't be an activist for the change that you want to see in the world, if you think you can't do anything, then at least you can work on yourself - make yourself such a positive, happy person and think good thoughts with such intensity that you affect those around you. Those people can affect the people around them, who will affect more people...

Who knows what you could spark off :)

Important: be careful about making orgone devices

by Lara Whybrow

A year or two ago I read about orgone devices and was suitably impressed. Orgone devices can bring rain, clear large spaces of negative energy, repel negative entities and a whole lot of other things. However, don't make orgone devices if you can't see energy because if these devices are improperly made, they can be very damaging. They are energy amplifiers and if the energy they are amplifying is bad, good luck to you...

Anyone can make an orgone device but not everyone can make a good one. Please be careful of orgone devices. Here is a link about orgone devices, read all the pages, and just be careful when dealing with energy devices.

http://forum.noblerealms.org/viewtopic.php?id=161&p=3

Rather develop your abilities in a slow and natural manner with the help of Nature and God and when you can clearly see energy, only then should you make an orgone device. As I always say - rather safe than sorry!

If you have an orgone device that you are unsure about, rather break it up, throw the outer pieces away and cleanse the crystal with lots of herbs, warm water and sea salt and then reprogram the crystal by burying it in the ground. It is best not to use the crystal again.

Telekinesis - My Personal Story

by Lara Whybrow

Telekinesis is definitely possible. As with all my blogs, I try to only mention stuff that I have personal experience of. There is so much bull**** going around the internet that I wanted my blogs to be a place where people could believe whatever I had to say, if only because I have myself experienced it. So I can say with authority that telekinesis exists because I can do it. This is my personal story.

Many people have trouble believing in telekinesis because they might think, "well, if it exists, why haven't we seen proof? Why isn't it on the news?" For starters, even if you saw video evidence of telekinesis, you would probably not believe it. It is so easy to create realistic special effects that video evidence is not enough, people would need to see it in real life. Then, even if they saw it, they would wonder if it was a trick or an optical illusion.

The second problem is thought power and the fact that the person doing the telekinesis would feel under pressure to perform and thus fail. Thought power is strong - if someone tries to prove their telekinetic ability in front of someone who is totally convinced it won't work, their thought power can block it from happening. Thought power is very strong.

Now - how do you do telekinesis? Um, it's simple really: just look at an object and move it with your mind. Haha! If only it were that simple. That is like saying to me, "Ok Lara, in order to move this car, just pick it up with your hands and move it." Not gonna happen! Unless I move it with my mind, which I doubt will happen any time soon because my ability is so small at the moment. But you get the analogy.

In order to do telekinesis you must believe, first of all, and you must have a very strong desire to do it. All things come from a great desire.

Let me tell you my story.

I had this thing in my head that I wanted to do telekinesis. It got to the stage where I felt that if telekinesis didn't exist then I wasn't interested in living. Life had nothing interesting to offer me and would kill myself out of sheer boredom. Yes, I was that fed up with life. One night I was sitting in a friend's living room. In his door there was a key and on this key was a key tag. I was focusing on it and it started to move back and forth. I thought it might be a draft but that seemed unlikely since there was no wind outside and in any case the person whose place it was was fanatical about keeping windows closed for safety. This was in South Africa, notorious for crime. So the key tag would be still. I would focus on it, and it would start to move. I called my friend over. He say down and I said, "look at the key tag, I'm going to make it move". About 20 seconds after that, it moved back and forth. I myself was not fully convinced that this was telekinesis. So I looked about for other things to move. I spotted a lanyard with a plastic laminated card attached to it. The lanyard was hanging off a framed picture on the wall. I tried to make it move but nothing happened. I changed position, looking at it from a side angle instead of spot on. And then it started moving very rapidly back and forth. I will never forget the feeling - I was seeing irrefutable evidence. Of course I made sure there were no drafts, and of course I knew it was me that moved it because at all other times it was dead still. Even if a person walked past it, the lanyard wouldn't really move much. At one point I even got the lanyard to move so far from the wall that it was like it was levitating.

From these two objects, I determined that it was much easier to move an object if you looked at from a side view, looking at the edge of the object than straight on. And it was much easier for me to make objects move back and forth than to, for example, roll a pencil in one direction.

Since then I have moved curtains and pieces of paper, being able to move these objects many times under observation. I did try to record it but I couldn't do it in front of the camera, I don't know why. I don't think it is because of pressure because I could do it in front of someone.

So as I said in the beginning of the article - don't ask me for proof because I don't care if anyone believes me. This was my personal thing - I needed to prove it to myself, and I did, so now I am a much happier human being because I know now that there is really no limit to what we humans can achieve and if you want something bad enough, you will get it. I just wanted to share my story so that if anyone was in the same boat as I was, they would know that they can do anything they put their mind to. Anything is possible.

Anything.

Colours have their own auras - practice seeing them if you can't see auras yet

by Lara Whybrow

To see auras, you have to practice the special way of seeing that is used when seeing auras. It is easier to practice by trying to see the aura of colours because then you know for sure that what you are seeing is real.
Some people disregard the fact that the aura can be seen, saying that what people think is the aura is just an after-image or an optical illusion. An after-image can be seen if you look somewhere else, auras can only be seen around the objects that they belong to. They are most definitely not optical illusions.

Each colour has it's own coloured aura. For example, yellow produces a purple aura. Pretty much all objects have an aura actually.

To see the aura you need natural light for best results. The light must not be too bright or glaring though. Look at the edge or the outline of the object - this is important. Try a piece of yellow paper or something yellow on a white background and look at the edge of the paper. If you are seeing the aura, you will see a faint purple colour coming off the edge. It develops, and if you carry on looking it will get stronger and extend further from the paper. When I looked at yellow curtains once, the purple was so bright it seemed to almost fill the whole room!

When seeing the auras, your eyes are relaxed and you "allow" yourself to see the colour. You do not strain or think about it too much. You simply see what there is to see. Once you get it right the first time, all the times after that are easier. It doesn't work every time though so don't give up if you don't get it right. The brain waves probably need to be at a certain frequency or something for best results. I am not sure because sadly, psychic and paranormal phenomena don't get researched enough.

Psychometry, Crystals and Gemstones

by Lara Whybrow

Psychometry is the ability to read information from objects such as stones, coins, keys, jewellery, etc. Psychometry is one of the easiest of the psychic abilities to scientifically test because tests can be run where correct "guesses" which occur in above average amounts must point to something significant going on. Tests on things such as telekinesis are far more difficult, due to the nature of thought power, stress and opposing thought power.

Psychometrists sometimes pick up information that might seem to be incorrect at first. They might read your ring and sense worry, or sense "a blue-eyed lady" when you have brown eyes, but this is because the energy signature left on the ring of the previous owner is stronger than yours, thereby being more recognizable. Of course, when this happens in scientific test of psychometric abilities, many scientists will be prone to dismissing this explanation as an excuse and the person is a liar and a charlatan.

Crystals and gemstones pick up energy very well due to their molecular structure. Like silicon, they absorb information in the breaks in their crystalline structure. This is why you must always "cleanse" your crystal or gemstone before you use it for yourself because energy signatures stick to crystals and gemstones very well. So if the previous owner of your crystal had problems, you could be affected too. The crystals and gemstones should then be charged with light or with your energy or any other source of good energy, and the energy that comes out will be "coloured" by the stone or crystal. So light energy coming out of a rose quartz, which is pink, will be charged with the qualities of pink which are love and tranquility. Each colour has its own particular effect. Red is energizing, yellow is for happiness & power, etc.

Black stones are better for absorbing energy, rather than emitting energy. This is why they are used to absorb negative energy and are good stones for healing.

Crystals and gemstones also have electromagnetic frequencies which can be used to entrain our own electromagnetic frequencies for purposes of healing or meditation because sometimes our electromagnetic frequencies fall out of alignment to the Earth's. They can be programmed to hold information, which can be read via psychometry.

Make sure to frequently cleanse your crystals with running water and intent to cleanse them of any negative energy that they may have picked up. This is vital if you have a disharmonious environment.
If you argue frequently in a house full of crystals, this energy will stick to the gemstones and crystals, just as this energy will stick to the walls and objects in your home. If you don't air out your house and fill the house with positive energy in the form of happy moods, pets, plants, colours etc, this energy could stick around. The next time you argue, more negative energy gets added. This will then induce you to argue even more! A vicious cycle indeed.

Any object or substance can have psychometric impressions so cleanse your environment regularly. Cleanse it with positivity and cleanse the physical space too of dust and dirt because the two are inter-linked.

THE PHENOMENON
Way back when, people did not have consciousness. Yet
once it developed, it gradually started occupying more and
more of the waking state. However, nowadays consciousness
is outgrowing the waking state, and has begun continuing its
expansion into other states. Consciousness increasingly
springs up during REM-phase sleep, giving rise to the most
astounding phenomenon of human existence - feeling oneself
in an out-of-body experience.

THE INDIRECT METHOD: STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS
So, you have decided to experience out-of-body sensations and want to achieve this as quickly as possible. To that end, here we present a brief description of the easiest method - cycles of indirect techniques. This is a universal and most effective way to obtain a phase experience. It has been refined by the OOBE Research Center's work with thousands of people all over the world. The secret to indirect techniques is to perform them upon awakening, when the human brain is physiologically quite close to the phase state, or still in it.

Interesting Fact!
Indirect techniques are mainly to thank for our 80% success rate over only 2
days of attempts at three-day seminars, even in groups of 50 people and more.
Once, more than half of the group had a phase experience by the second day, and
most had two or more experiences. Cycles of indirect techniques consist of attempts to
separate immediately upon awakening, and if that is unsuccessful, then quickly cycling through techniques over the course of a minute until one of them works, after which it is possible to separate from the body. Usually, 1 to 5 properly performed attempts are all that is necessary to obtain results.
The techniques described below work extremely well both when awakening from a daytime nap, as well
as in the middle of the night. However, we will be concentrating on the optimum strategy - the deferred method - which allows for numerous attempts to be had in a single
day. This substantially increases the probability of success occurring in only 1 to 3 days.
STEP 1: SLEEP 6 HOURS AND THEN WAKE UP WITH AN ALARM CLOCK
On a night before a free day when you won't have to wake up early, go to bed at your usual time and set your alarm so that you'll only sleep for about 6 hours. When the
alarm goes off, you must get up to drink a glass of water, go to the bathroom, and read these instructions once again. Do not attempt any techniques before going to bed the nigh before, no matter what the case. You just need to lie down and get some sound sleep. The sounder you sleep over these 6 hours, the better your chances of getting results.

STEP 2: GO BACK TO SLEEP WITH AN INTENTION
After 3 to 50 minutes of being awake, go back to bed and concentrate your attention on how you will perform cycles of indirect techniques upon each subsequent awakening in order to leave your body and implement your prepared plan of action. No need to set the alarm clock this time. Each subsequent awakening should occur naturally. If it's too bright in the room, you can wear a special eye-mask. If it's loud - use earplugs. Meanwhile, focus your attention on how you're going to try to wake up without moving your physical body. This isn't mandatory, but it will substantially increase the effectiveness of the indirect techniques. Now, sleep for 2 to 4 hours, but take advantage of natural awakenings that occur during this period of time. They
will happen much more often than usual. After each attempt - whether successful or not - you must fall back asleep with that very same intention of waking up and trying again. In this way, you can make many attempts over the course of a single morning. Up to a quarter of those attempts will be successful, even for novices (70 to 95% of them will be successful for experienced practitioners).
STEP 3: SEPARATE THE INSTANT YOU AWAKEN
Each time you wake up again, try not to move or open your eyes. Instead, immediately try to separate from your body. Up to 50% of success with indirect techniques comes during this simple first step - one that is so simple that people don't even suspect that it could work. In order to separate from your body, simply try to stand up, roll out, or levitate. Try to do it with your own perceived (i.e. subtle) body, but without moving your physical muscles. Remember that it will feel just like normal physical movement. When the moment comes, don't think too hard
about how to do it. During those first moments after awakening, stubbornly try to separate from your body any way that you can and no matter what. Most likely, you'll intuitively know how to do it. The most important thing is not to think too hard and not to lose those first seconds of awakening.
Interesting Fact!
During the second lesson at School of
Out-of-Body Travel seminars, participants
are asked to explain in their own words how
they were able to separate, but without
using the words “easily”, “simply”, or “as
usual”. They are usually always unable to
comply with this request, as separation
nearly always occurs for them “easily”,
“simply” and “as usual” when the moment
is right.

STEP 4: CYCLING TECHNIQUES AFTER ATTEMPTS TO
SEPARATE

If immediate separation doesn't work out - which would become apparent after 3-5 seconds - start right then and there to alternate between 2 to 3 of the techniques that are most straightforward to you, until one of them works. When this happens, you can try to separate again. Choose 2 to 3 of the following five techniques so that you can alternate through them during awakenings:
Rotation
For 3 to 5 seconds, try to imagine rotating to either side along your head-to-toe axis as vividly as possible. If no sensations arise, switch to another technique. If a real or even slight sensation of rotation arises, focus your attention on this technique and rotate even more energetically. As soon as the sensation of rotating becomes stable and real, you should try to separate again using it as a starting point.
Swimmer technique
For 3 to 5 seconds, try to imagine as decidedly as possible that you are swimming or simply making swimming motions with your arms. Try to feel it no matter what, and as vividly as you can. If nothing happens, switch to another technique. There is no need to switch techniques if the sensation of swimming arises. Instead, intensify the sensations that arise. Afterwards, the real sensation of swimming in water will come to you. That's already the phase - and there's no need for separation when you're already in the phase. However, if such sensations occur while you're in bed instead of a body of water, then you will need to employ a separation technique. Use the swimming sensations as a starting point.

Observing images
Peer into the void before your closed eyes for 3 to 5 seconds. If nothing occurs, switch to another technique. If you see any kind of imagery, peer into it until it becomes realistic. Once it is, separate from the body right then and there, or allow yourself to be pulled into the imagery. When peering at imagery, it's important not to scrutinize details, lest the image wash away. You'll need to look through the picture, which will make it more realistic.
Hand visualization
For 3 to 5 seconds, imagine vividly and decidedly that you are rubbing your hands together close to your eyes. Try no matter what to feel them in front of you, to see them, and even to hear the sound of them rubbing. If nothing happens, switch to another technique. If any of the above sensations start to arise, then keep with the technique and intensify it until it becomes totally realistic. Afterwards you can try to separate from the body, using the sensations arising from the technique as a start-off point.
Phantom wiggling
Try to wiggle your perceived hands or feet for 3 to 5 seconds. Do not move a muscle under any circumstances, and do not imagine the movement itself. For example, try to intensively press down and then up, wiggle to the left and right, and so on. If nothing occurs, switch to another technique. If a slight or sluggish sensation of real movement suddenly arises, then focus your attention on the technique, trying to increase the range of motion as much as you can. Once you can move by at least 4 inches, immediately try to separate from your body starting off from the sensations arising from the technique. All that you need to do for each attempt is alternate between 2 to 3 techniques for 3 to 5 seconds each. This leads to indirect techniques cycles, where the practitioner alternates one technique after another over the course of a minute in search of the one that works. It is very important to do no less than 4 cycles of 2 to 3 techniques during an attempt. Remember - even if a technique doesn't work immediately, that doesn't mean that it will not work on the very next cycle of techniques, if not just a bit later. That's precisely why it's necessary to stubbornly alternate techniques, performing no less than 4 complete cycles, but all within no longer than a minute.
For example, the entire process may take place as follows:
a phaser goes to bed at 11:30pm and sets his alarm for 6:00am; at 6:00 he wakes up to his alarm clock, goes to the bathroom, drinks some water, and recalls the indirect techniques as well as his interesting plan of action for the phase (for example, to look in the mirror and fly to Mars); at 6:05am the phaser goes back to sleep with the clear intention of entering the phase upon each subsequent awakening; at 7:35am (or whenever natural awakening occurs) the phaser awakes unexpectedly and immediately tries to separate from his body then and there; not having separated within 3 to 5 seconds, the phaser begins to try to do rotations, but those also do not work within 3 to 5 seconds; the phaser performs the swimmer technique, but that does not work within 3 to 5 seconds, the phaser does phantom wiggling, but it doesn't work within 3 to 5 seconds, the phaser does rotation again, then the swimmer technique and phantom wiggling for 3 to 5 seconds each; then he once again does rotation, swimming, and phantom wiggling for 3 to 5 seconds each; on the fourth cycle he begins to do rotation and it unexpectedly starts working - the feeling of rotation arises; the phaser keeps with this technique, and spins as hard as he can and separates from his body right then and there using the sensation of rotation: he then runs to the mirror, all the while actively palpating and scrutinizing everything around him from a close distance, which intensifies his sensations; having already looked in the mirror, the practitioner employs the translocation technique and finds himself on Mars, but he is unexpectedly returned to the body; the phaser then immediately tries to leave his body again, but is unable to; he falls back asleep with the clear intention of repeating the attempt upon the next awakening and staying longer on Mars; and so on. Just repeat the above using the techniques that come most naturally to you, and you'll open yourself up to a whole new universe!

If you take 20 to 30 minutes out of your day to simply
train the techniques and the procedure, the method will be
remembered and work better. This will substantially increase
the success of attempts upon awakening.
Dream consciousness is also considered to be a phase
experience. If you suddenly realize that you're dreaming while
asleep, then that's already the phase. You should therefore
proceed to implement your plan of action and stabilize the
state. If dream consciousness does arise, it would be a side
effect of doing technique cycles upon awakenings. This side
effect is quite common - always be ready for it.
STEP 5: AFTER THE ATTEMPT
Fall back asleep if you can after each attempt (whether
successful or not) in order to make another attempt to leave
your body upon your next awakening. That way you'll not
only be able to leave your body in one day, but also to do it
several times on the very first day!
Interesting Fact!
At a School of Out-of-Body Travel
seminar, a novice was able to leave his
body for the first time in his life in 6 of 8
attempts upon awakening the very first
morning.
Even the most unsuccessful attempt should last no
longer than a minute. If nothing happens over that period of
time, it's much more effective to fall asleep and catch the
next awakening, as opposed to stubbornly trying to squeeze
results out of the current attempt.

Grey matter in the region of brain responsible for conforming to society is increasing

by Marco Torres
from: PreventDiseasehttp://www.bibliotecapleyades.net

Our tendencies to react and adapt to the standards placed on us by society are changing and at a physical level we are finding out why. For the first time, scientists are seeing consistent changes in the amount of grey matter in one specific brain region responsible for conforming to social pressures.

Individuals are presented with many choices in life, from political alignments to choosing which sandwich to eat for lunch. People are realizing that the right of choice is a universal right, not a privilege. Their eventual decisions can be influenced by the options chosen by those around them. Although differences in individuals’ tendencies to conform to social pressures are commonly observed, no anatomical measure has previously been linked to the likelihood of someone conforming under the influence of their peers.

Many have addressed the changing tone in our society.

People are fed up with what is happening around them. They are tired of the corruption, greed, control and manipulation of national and international governments at all levels. The breaking point in human beings may have arrived and the evidence is in the brain.

Research funded by the Danish National Research Foundation and the Wellcome Trust, scientists at New York University, Aarhus University and the Wellcome Trust Centre for Neuroimaging at UCL (University College London) have identified the specific brain structures that are now predicting how and why society is reacting to social pressures.

Their approach involved a technique known as voxel-based morphometry allowing researchers to measure the volume of grey matter (the nerve cells where the processing takes place) from three-dimensional images of the brain provided by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans.

Strikingly, only grey matter volume in one precise brain region - the lateral orbitofrontal cortex - was associated with this measure of social influence.

The linear relationship between grey matter volume and the tendency of individuals to conform was observed in this particular region in both hemispheres of the brain.

"The most impressive correlation we are seeing in brain scans throughout the world is that this grey matter volume is increasing in people of all ages," said neuroscientist Agata Petrova.

"This suggests that a greater percentage of populations may reject common social influences," she added.

There has been many studies on how meditation is facilitating structural changes which are found in areas of the brain that are important for sensory, cognitive and emotional processing.

"What is most fascinating to me is the suggestion that meditation practice can change anyone's grey matter," said Jeremy Gray, an assistant professor of psychology at Yale.

Since more people are meditating to reach spiritual destinations, their brains are evolving with their intentions.

In a previous study, the UCL researchers had looked at the level of activity in the participants’ brains when faced with disagreement with the experts. This activity predicted how much influence the experts would have. By comparing the measures in this new study with the previous findings, they were able to show that grey matter volume in the lateral orbitofrontal cortex also predicted how individuals responded when the critics disagreed with their opinions.

These findings suggest that the brain region is particularly tuned to recognizing cues of social conflict, such as when someone disapproves of a choice, which may prompt the subject to update their opinions accordingly.

Study leader Professor Chris Frith says:
“The ability to adapt to others and align ourselves with them is an important social skill. However, at what level is this skill implemented in the brain? At a software (information processing) or hardware (structural) level? Our results show that social conformation is, at least in part, hard-wired in the structure of the brain.”

Dr Daniel Campbell-Meiklejohn, first author of the study, explains the implications of their findings:
“This finding suggests that perhaps we should look at how these individuals learn what is important from the expressed preferences of others.”

Hacking grey matter has also been an accomplished by those with musical training. In a 2003 Journal of Neuroscience paper Gaser and Schlaug reported that professional musicians had increased gray matter volume in motor, auditory and visual-spatial brain regions compared to amateur musicians and non-musicians.
"We are beginning to see an evolution of the human brain that has never been studied or historically reported anywhere," said Psychology professor Altan Korkmaz. "This may potentially have very exciting and profound implications in the areas of human behavior in the future."

Korkmaz says that increasing grey matter and neuronal, neurofibral and dentrite activity in the cerebral cortex is not difficult for those wishing to accelerate the process. "Neurogenesis in the brain can be significantly increased by exercise. This greatly increases the brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a key component in brain growth." According to Korkmaz, exercise can stimulate and double BDNF peaking about 90 minutes to 2 hours after vigorous exercise.

What are we to expect from these revelations? It is often said that a group of people can never change at once, only one at a time. However, it seems that there is now conclusive evidence that human brains are changing everywhere and almost simultaneously.

The cause may be attributable to either
  • changing thought patterns
  • releasing outdated societal values
  • embracing the versatility of the human dynamic,
...or all of the above.

Whatever it is, it will likely change the world.

The Secret Life of Plants

Below is a book extract from an absolutely amazing book - The Secret Life of Plants by
Peter Tompkins and Christopher Bird. In this book you will discover how amazing plants really are - they have a type of consciousness and reading this book will make you more respectful and aware of Nature. Below is the account of how Backster discovered that plants react to our thoughts.

Some reviews about this book:

“Once in a while you find a book that stuns you. Its scope leaves
you breathless. This is such a book.”
- John White, San Francisco Chronicle

"Plenty of hard facts and astounding scientific and practical lore." Newsweek

Book Extract: The Secret Life of Plants by Peter Tompkins & Christopher Bird, based on the research of Cleve Backster and others.

Backster's antics with his plants, headlined in the world press, became
the subject of skits, cartoons, and lampoons; but the Pandora's box
which he opened for science may never again be closed. Backster's
discovery that plants appear to be sentient caused strong and varied
reaction round the globe, despite the fact that Backster never claimed
a discovery, only an uncovering of what has been known and forgotten.
Wisely he chose to avoid publicity, and concentrated on establishing the
absolute scientific bona fides of what has come to be known as the
"Backster Effect. "

His adventure started in 1966. Backster had been up all night in his
school for polygraph examiners, where he teaches the art of lie detection
to policemen and security agents from around the world. On impulse
he decided to attach the electrodes of one of his lie detectors to the leaf
of his dracaena. The dracaena is a tropical plant similar to a palm tree,
with large leaves and a dense cluster of small flowers; it is known as the
dragon tree (Latin draco) because of the popular myth that its resin
yields dragon blood.

Backster was curious to see if the leaf would be affected by water poured
on its roots, and if so, how, and how soon.
As the plant thirstily sucked water up its stem, the galvanometer, to
Backster's surprise, did not indicate less resistance, as might have been
expected by the greater electrical conductivity of the moister plant. The
pen on the graph paper, instead of trending upward, was trending
downward, with a lot of sawtooth motion on the tracing.

A galvanometer is that part of a polygraph lie detector which, when
attached to a human being by wires through which a weak current of
electricity is run, will cause a needle to move, or a pen to make a tracing
on a moving graph of paper, in response to mental images, or the
slightest surges of human emotion. Invented at the end of the eighteenth
century by a Viennese priest, Father Maximilian Hell, S.)., court
astronomer to the Empress Maria Theresa, it was named after Luigi
Calvani, the Italian physicist and physiologist who discovered "animal
electricity." The galvanometer is now used in conjunction with an
electrical circuit called a "Wheatstone bridge," in honor of the English
physicist and inventor of the automatic telegraph, Sir Charles Wheatstone.

4 MODERN RESEARCH
In simple terms, the bridge balances resistance, so that the human
body's electrical potential or basic charge can be measured as it
fluctuates under the stimulus of thought and emotion. The standard usage is to
feed "carefully structured" questions to a suspect and watch for those which
cause the needle to Jump. Veteran examiners, such as Backster, claim they can
identify deception from the patterns produced on the graph.
Backster's dragon tree, to his amazement, was giving him a reaction
very similar to that of a human being experiencing an emotional stimulus
of short duration. Could the plant be displaying emotion?
What happened to Backster in the next ten minutes was to revolutionize
his life.

The most effective way to trigger in a human being a reaction strong
enough to make the galvanometer jump is to threaten his or her wellbeing.
Backster decided to do just that to the plant: he dunked a leaf
of the dracaena in the cup of hot coffee perennially in his hand. There
was no reaction to speak of on the meter. Backster studied the problem
several minutes, then conceived a worse threat: he would burn the actual
leaf to which the electrodes were attached. The instant he got the
picture of flame in his mind, and before he could move for a match,
there was a dramatic change in the tracing pattern on the graph in the
form of a prolonged upward sweep of the recording pen. Backster had
not moved, either toward the plant or toward the recording machine.

Could the plant have been reading his mind?
When Backster left the room and returned with some matches, he
found another sudden surge had registered on the chart, evidently
caused by his determination to carry out the threat. Reluctantly he set
about burning the leaf. This time there was a lower peak of reaction on
the graph. Later, as he went through the motions of pretending he
would burn the leaf, there was no reaction whatsoever. The plant appeared
to be able to differentiate between real and pretended intent.
Backster felt like running into the street and shouting to the world,
"Plants can think!" Instead he plunged into the most meticulous investigation
of the phenomena in order to establish just how the plant was
reacting to his thoughts, and through what medium.

The rest of the book is fascinating - plants that form bonds with their owners, plants that open electrically operated garage doors - a must read!
